The 2006-2007 Season

Believe it or not, Playmakers Civic Theatre is celebrating its Diamond 60th Anniversary Season! Opening the season in November will be Barbara Robinson's "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". This play, based on the popular children's story by the same name and author, is about the Herdman Kids who are the school bullies. They take what they want from everyone else as they themselves don't have much. Sunday School is the only safe place until someone lets it slip they serve donuts & treats. Now it's time to cast the Christmas pageant and the Herdmans decide THEY want the lead roles and bully the other children into being the shepherds and wise men. To top it off, old Mrs. Armstrong who ALWAYS directs the pageant has broken her leg and someone else must step in!

Directors are Bonnie Segaard and Dorothy Wall, assisted by Millie Butts.
Production dates are November 2-5 & 9-12, 2006

The second show is a new comedy by our neighboring Fremont Community Theatre's own Ron Hill, "House for Sale". Glen Martin is a widower who is adjusting to living without his beloved wife, Faye. He and his neighbor buddy, Max, spend lots of time together enjoying each other's company until Max breaks his leg. Glen's daughter wants him to sell his house and move in with her & her husband so "someone can look after you every day". Glen's solution is to advertise for a roommate which of course brings in an array of odd characters and Glen quickly loses control. All this leads to Glen agreeing to put the house up for sale and move in with his daughter. "House for Sale" takes a warm & comical look at the events that lead to making some of life's big decisions. Six men & five women make up the cast.

Director Susan Doell will hold auditions November 14 & 15, 2006.
Productions dates are January 11-14 & 18-21, 2007

Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun" is the season's musical event. Annie Oakley is the best shot around and is discovered by Col. Buffalo Bill who hires Annie for his famous Wild West Show. It only takes one look for Annie and she falls head over heels in love for the show's star sharp shooter, Frank Butler. It also doesn't take long for the audience to fall in love with the new Lady Shooter, and Frank's ego can't take it. So, he leaves for a rival western show. But in the end the Gal gets her Guy with famous songs like "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly", "I Got the Sun in the Morning", "You Can't Get a Man With a Gun", "An Old Fashioned Wedding", & "There's No Business Like Show Business". A cast of many including 3 girls & a boy. Music & lyrics by Irving Berlin; book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields; as revised by Peter Stone.

Jan Huston will direct.
Auditions are January 23 & 24, 2007
Production dates are March 15-18, 22-25, 29-31 & April 1, 2007

The season will end with another new comedy, Pat Cook's "You Can't Get There From Here". The Mavis Garner Bed & Breakfast is not the sort of place one would find on the freeway or even a map. So the proprietors, sisters Liz & Myrtle, as well as other village citizens have devised a scheme to get people to stay over in their sleepy hamlet. Whenever anyone asks for directions they are directed down one particular street that has the mother of all potholes. Of course cars get disabled and towed to the local garage where the mechanic "will get that part & have you all fixed up .....tomorrow!" ..."Oh!...You need a place to stay!?" After the victims arrive at the bed & breakfast they discover Liz and Myrtle are also village officials who levy trumped up traffic tickets and collect $5 & $10 fines all afternoon. Well, when big city newspaper reporter Arthur Lyman shows up looking for a reclusive Pulitzer Prize writer and falls victim to the pothole and the bogus traffic tickets, he decides to write an expose! The problem comes in when he stays just long enough to fall in love with Liz & Myrtle's niece, who becomes quite upset when she learns her new love is about to print lies about her beloved aunts! Five women & two men of various ages will tell us, "You Can't Get There From Here".

Marty Williams will direct.
Auditions are May 8 & 9, 2007
Performance dates are July 12-15 & 19-22, 2007
