“WAITING FOR MacARTHUR” by P. Paulette MacDougal
Playmakers will warm your winter nights and stir your patriotism with “Waiting for MacArthur” by P. Paulette MacDougall. Taken from the memories of many heroic World War II military service people, we meet Annie Lou, a young Army nurse under bombardment on the Philippine island off Corregidor during World War II, while she corresponds with her mother, her teacher, and her best friend. Because of the war, friendships change, courtships go amiss, and family bonds stress or strengthen. The playwright dedicates her play to her mother and father and all the other members of “The Greatest Generation.” Playmaker Civic Theatre will dedicate a performance to the memory of our World War II fallen and veterans; and to the fallen, the veterans, and active service members since World War II. Two young women, one middle-aged, and one motherly woman, will make up the cast.

Directed by Susan Doell
Auditions: December 13 and 14, 2005
Production Dates: February 7-10 and 15-18, 2006

“THERE’S A BURGLAR IN MY BED” by Michael Parker
“Let us make you smile” when American farce takes the Playmaker stage in, “There's a Burglar in My Bed,” by Michael Parker. William Whittington III and his wife Ashley are going away the weekend from their Massachusetts estate, he to Delaware for duck hunting and she to her mother’s in Boston. Both have, in fact, arranged trysts with their respective lovers in the estate’s beach cottage. Inevitably their paths cross and divorce is in the air. Neither is willing to give up the world-famous Whittington necklace, so each devises a plan to steal it. True to the laws of farce, both simulated burglaries are scheduled for the same night. Fun-filled chaos ensues with mistaken identities, unlikely romantic liaisons, a bumbling private detective, a fake necklace, and a very determined nymphomaniac. Confusion is piled on confusion until the mystery of who has the real necklace and who has the fake is revealed in a surprise ending. Seven middle-aged people are needed: Four women and three men.

Directed by Jan Meyer Huston
Auditions: February 21 and 22, 2006
Production Dates: April 27-30 and May 4-7, 2006

“GYPSY” by Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim
The “Entertainment” of our 59th season concludes with our second musical, “Gypsy,” book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. “Gypsy” is the well-known story of the rise to stardom of the 20th Century's most famous strip tease performer, Gypsy Rose Lee. Meet Mdm. Rose, an aggressive stage mother and her obsession with making her children stars. Follow Rose and her daughters, June and Louise, in the trip across the United States during the 1920s when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born. Rose concocts one bad children's act after another in attempt to make her youngest daughter June, a stage star. One day Rose's agent/boyfriend Herbie mistakenly books them into a burlesque house. A guest star stripper gets arrested and Rose pushes her older daughter Louise into doing a no strip tease routine and GYPSY ROSE LEE is born. Jule Styne's music and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics have become some of the most popular and most recognizable music to ever come out of Broadway: Let Me Entertain You, Some People, You’ll Never Get Away From Me, If Momma Was Married, All I Need Is The Girl, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Get a Gimmick, and Together Wherever We Go. 30+ people, including boys, girls, teenagers, and musicians are needed to “entertain” in our season Finale.
